Trigger Finger

What is Trigger Finger?

Trigger finger is also referral as stenosing tenosynovitis is caused by inflammation of the flexor tendon sheath.

It is a very common condition that is more common in diabetics, but can affect anyone that is active with their hands. Generally It is caused by entrapment of the flexor tendons. Eventually the entrapment happens at the level of the A1 pulley which leads to catching and pain of the tendons. When the problem is severe, trigger finger release may be the best treatment.

What are some of the symptoms?

  • Firstly, finger clicking
  • Secondly, pain at the palm near where the finger flex
  • Lastly, finger becoming “locked” in a flexed position

What are some of the Treatments?

 

  • Generally, we start with night Splinting
  • Also, activity Modification
  • In addition, Anti-Inflamatory Medications (NSAIDS)
  • Furthermore, Steroid Injections to reduce the area inflamed
  • Finally, surgery to release tendons
