Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) develops from a mix of factors, both genetic and environmental. In many cases, pain on the outside of the elbow results after repetitive activity causes small injuries to the tendons that attach at that point.
Because these tendons have relatively poor blood supply, the body often struggles to fully heal the repeated micro-injury, which can lead to chronic tendon tearing and degeneration, a condition known as tendinosis.
Tennis elbow repair surgery is an invasive procedure. Surgeons typically address the underlying problem by debriding, scraping, or cutting out the affected tissue.
Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow (lateral and medial epicondylitis) involve inflammation or degeneration of the tendons around the elbow. This condition classically develops from overuse through sports or everyday activities, and can cause ongoing pain even with minimal activity or at rest.
Lifting items often makes the pain worse. Elbow tendon pain often responds to conservative measures such as rest, anti-inflammatory medication, and bracing. More severe or chronic cases may require surgery, but for patients who don’t qualify for surgery or would prefer to avoid it, orthobiologic treatments are often worth considering.
At IROSM in Fort Lauderdale, lateral epicondylitis is treated using ultrasound-guided, intra-tendinous LR-PRP (Leukocyte-Rich Platelet-Rich Plasma), a precision technique that places concentrated platelets directly into the affected tendon tissue.
IROSM was created to provide regenerative orthopedic care within a patient-centered experience.
The physicians at IROSM are board-certified and bring extensive experience treating complex tendon injuries and joint pain.
Our physicians use ultrasound imaging to help support accurate placement into the damaged tendon tissue during treatment.
Care begins with an in-depth consultation directly with a physician, so your treatment plan is based on your specific diagnosis.
Care includes continued check-ups after treatment, along with personalized physical therapy protocols and booster treatments if needed.
