There are many factors both genetic and environmental that contribute to the disease process known as tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis). In many cases patients lateral elbow pain results after repetitive activity causes micro-injury to the tendons that attach on the lateral elbow bone. Repetitive micro-trauma and an inability on the part of the body to fully heal the tendon (due in part by poor blood supply) causes chronic tendon tearing and degeneration (tendinosis).
Tennis Elbow Repair surgery is an invasive procedure. In many cases surgeons will attempt to fix the underlying problem by debriding, scraping, or simply put cutting out painful tissue areas. Complicating factors to these surgeries include prolonged downtime, risks such as infection, and ineffective pain relief.
Tennis Elbow or Golfer Elbow also referred to as Lateral or Medial Epicondylitis is an inflammation of the bone and muscle tendons on the elbow. While this condition classically develops from overuse of the elbow tendons through sports or most common daily activities, Elbow tendinitis, or tendinosis typically causes ongoing elbow pain with minimal activity or even at rest. Lifting items often exacerbate this condition. Elbow tendon pain often responds to simple conservative medical measures, such as rest, anti-inflammatory medications and braces. However, more severe or chronic cases might require surgery. Cases that do not qualify for surgery can often be successfully managed with Orthobiologics treatments.
