Regenerative Medicine in Fort Lauderdale

PRP and stem cell treatments made from your own blood and cells

Joint, tendon, and sports injuries can be slow to heal. Regenerative medicine uses your own body’s healing material to help. This page explains the options at the Institute of Regenerative Orthopedics and Sports Medicine (IROSM) in Fort Lauderdale, and how to find out which one, if any, is right for you.

Your care is led by Dr. Jorge Gonzalez. He is board-certified in three areas, trained at the well-known Andrews Institute, and has treated professional baseball and football players.

What Is Regenerative Medicine?

Regenerative medicine uses natural healing material to help injured or worn-out tissue, like cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. The goal is to help the tissue itself, not just cover up the pain.

At IROSM in Fort Lauderdale, this material always comes from your own body. We use platelets from a small blood sample, or your own cells, which we prepare in our on-site lab.

Your doctor uses a live imaging screen to guide each injection to the right spot. You can read more about how image-guided injections work. You may also hear these treatments called orthobiologics.

Stem Cell Therapy

PRP Therapy (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

For PRP, we take a small amount of your blood and concentrate the platelets, the part that helps healing. It is often used for tendon injuries, sprains, and early arthritis.

Bone Injections for Arthritis

An intra-osseous injection places treatment in the bone just under worn cartilage. It is sometimes combined with a joint injection for more advanced arthritis.

Your Own Cells, Not Donor Products

Some clinics use cells or tissue from other people, such as umbilical cord or birth tissue. Others use lab-made products called exosomes. The FDA says none of these donor products are approved for joint problems or long-term pain. It also says no exosome products are approved at all.

At IROSM in Fort Lauderdale, regenerative treatments only use material from your own body. Before you choose any clinic, ask three questions: Whose cells are being used? Who does the procedure? Is imaging used to guide every injection? You can also read is stem cell therapy legal in the United States.

What the Research Says About Regenerative Medicine

  • PRP for knee arthritis: A 2021 review of many studies found that people who had PRP shots for knee arthritis reported less pain and better movement than people who had a common gel shot (hyaluronic acid).
  • Stem cell treatments: Research on stem cell treatments for joints is growing, but it is still early and results vary by condition. That is why IROSM checks each patient one by one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does IROSM use my own cells?
Yes. IROSM only uses your own blood and cells, prepared in its lab in Fort Lauderdale. IROSM does not use donor tissue or exosome products.
How do I know which treatment is right for me?
That is what your first visit to IROSM is for. Dr. Gonzalez will examine you and recommend the regenerative treatment that best fits your injury and goals. If none of them fit, he will tell you.
What does Florida’s 2025 stem cell law mean for me?
Since July 1, 2025, a Florida law lets some doctors offer certain stem cell treatments that the FDA has not approved, as long as they follow set rules. The law does not make those products FDA-approved. Always ask a clinic exactly which product it uses.
Will my insurance pay for it?
Coverage for regenerative treatments depends on your plan, and many plans do not cover them. The IROSM team will tell you the cost before any treatment starts.
Do I need a referral?
No. You do not need a referral to be seen at IROSM. You can call us or book online at our Fort Lauderdale or Hialeah office.
